In order to achieve anything worthwhile in our lives we need to be disciplined with ourselves in order to get there. It is highly unlikely and rare that anyone will be just be given great wealth, a successful business, the knowledge to be an expert in a particular field, their perfect figure or simply losing weight. For the majority of us all we must work to get those things if we truly want them and self-discipline is the key.

You need self-discipline when having your own internet business, as you’re your own boss, you choose when you get up, how long you take for lunch, when you’ll finish and with no one on your back telling you what to do you need to be strict and regimented with yourself. To get there you need even more self-discipline, many people who want to set up their own business most often have to do it on top of a day job and family commitments. That’s where self-discipline comes in as it is much easier to go down the pub or watch TV after a day’s work, rather than then having to start even more work on until the late hours.

But the same goes for anything, if you want that bodybuilder’s/athletic physique or just get trim for summer you have to train hard and eat clean and healthy, no matter how much you want to stay at home and watch TV or eat that chocolate cake or cheese burger.

But having that self-discipline and determination is what will help make someone successful in whatever they do and what separates the dreamers and the doers. Many people talk of having their own business or getting in great shape, or going and getting that qualification in order to get their dream job, but very few actually get up and do it.

I agree with your sentiments entirely Dominic, working from home can be really difficult as there are so many things to take your attention away from whatever you’re doing

    Nice post

Ive changed my mindset from saying
“aint got time to do this”
“ill make the TIME !! :)

    Hi Dominic,

I agree self-disciplined is extremely important in the process of setting up an online business or achieving a particular goal, and having something to remind you to stay focused and keeping on track is essential. Things like having a family photo next to your computer when working on your business can be helpful toward maintaining one’s self-discipline, as when you get distracted, you take a look at the family photo and it will remind yourself that you’re working for a better future not for yourself, but for your family as well and a lifestyle choice to look forward to.

    Kind regards

    Hi Dominic,

I totally agree with you, it needs a lot self discipline when working from home. There are too many distractions that try to take our attention to different things.
The best is to dedicate a special time for your business and let your family and friends know about it. Maybe even switch off the phone for this time, as it can be often the time waster #1.
Also a simple ‘do not disturb’ sign at your home office can help a lot.

    Good points Dominic.

Self-discipline! Not something I’ve always been very good at to be honest but I’m making a big effort now to have that as one of my goals.

For some of us its a bit of a catch-22 situation really! In many ways I think self-discipline is your only real option when your a full time Internet Marketer and working for yourself.

When you’ve still got a day job, you’ve still got that ‘safety net’ and in many ways the IM side of things is more of a professional hobby. After all, should it fail, you’ve still got that day job to turn to.

Time to forget about that safety net I think (not brave enough to quit yet though!)
